How to Find and Download Your PhotoDay Digital Photos

· Facts checked against official sources on · 7 min read

Your PhotoDay digital photos don't download from the gallery. They come as a link, sent to you right after you order. Here's the short version:

  1. Find the link. PhotoDay texts it to the phone number you used at checkout. It's also in your order receipt email.
  2. Open it and click the green Download button. On a computer, Download All saves everything at once.
  3. Check the file. Photos you paid for download without the watermark, according to PhotoDay. If you still see one, you're probably looking at the gallery preview, not your download.

The rest of this guide covers which kind of download you bought, what to do if the link is missing, and how to keep your photos safe.

First, check what you ordered

Your studio may sell two kinds of digital downloads, plus prints. They're not the same, so check your receipt before you go looking for a file.

What you boughtWhat you getPrint release?Best for
High-Resolution downloadFull-size photo, same size the photographer uploadedYes, in a second emailPrints, frames, photo books
Social Sharing downloadSmaller photo, 900 pixels wideNoTexting and social posts
Prints onlyPaper prints, no digital file—Frames, wallets, family

Both kinds of download come without the watermark. The difference is size. A Social Sharing photo looks fine on a phone. But print shops usually want about 300 pixels for every inch of print, so a 900-pixel-wide photo only prints well at about 3 inches wide. Blow it up to 8×10 and it will look blurry. PhotoDay itself says Social Sharing downloads "are not high enough resolution to be printed." To print, frame, or make a photo book, you need the High-Resolution download.

If you only ordered prints, there's no digital file to download. Check your gallery to see whether the studio still sells a digital add-on, or contact the studio directly.

How to download your PhotoDay photos

On a computer

  1. Find the download link. Look for the text message PhotoDay sent to the phone number you used at checkout, or open your order receipt email.
  2. Open the link. It opens in your web browser.
  3. Click Download All to save every photo in the order at once, or click the green Download button on each photo.
  4. Check the files. Open one in your photo viewer and zoom in. A purchased High-Resolution file should be large and sharp, with no watermark.

On a phone

  1. Tap the link in the text message or receipt email.
  2. Tap the green Download button. On a phone, PhotoDay has you download photos one at a time; the Download All option is for desktop.
  3. Save each photo to your camera roll, then confirm it shows up in your Photos app.

Bought a lot of photos, like through the "Download All My Photos" option some studios offer? A computer will be much faster.

Can't find your download link?

This is the most common problem, and it's usually quick to fix. Find your situation:

A question about the photos themselves, such as a retake, a wrong name, or a missing team photo, is for the studio that took them. Their contact information is shown in your gallery.

Still seeing a watermark?

PhotoDay's help center is clear that purchased downloads don't carry the watermark. If you still see one, it's usually one of these:

  • You're viewing the gallery, not your download. Gallery photos are watermarked on purpose so families can preview them before buying. The clean file comes from the download link, not from the gallery page.
  • You saved a copy from the gallery. Any copy saved or captured from the gallery preview is still the watermarked preview. Go back to your download link and save the purchased file instead.
  • You ordered prints only. There's no digital file in the order, so the only digital copy you have is the preview.
  • The file looks small, not watermarked. If the photo is clean but blurry when enlarged, you probably have a Social Sharing download. Ask the studio whether you can upgrade to High-Resolution.

What the print release lets you do

When you buy a High-Resolution download, PhotoDay emails you a separate photo release. According to PhotoDay, it covers personal use only. You can print the photos however you like, at any store or lab, but the studio keeps the right to use them commercially. In plain terms: framing, holiday cards, and Grandma's photo book are fine. Using the photo in an ad or selling it is not.

Social Sharing downloads don't come with a print release. Keep the release email with your photos; some photo labs and stores may ask for a release before printing professional portraits. Want to know whether a release also covers edits like cropping or retouching? Read our guide on school photos you've already paid for, which covers asking the photographer.

Back up your photos once you have them

PhotoDay's help pages don't promise how long download links stay active, so treat the link as temporary and save your copies the same day:

  1. Download on a computer if you can, using Download All.
  2. Rename the files with your child's name, grade, and year, like ava-grade3-fall-2026.jpg. Ten years from now you'll thank yourself.
  3. Keep two copies: one on your computer or an external drive, and one in a cloud photo library.
  4. File the receipt and the print release in the same folder as the photos.

For team and league photos, our guide to getting clean copies of team sports photos covers banner sizes and sharing with other families.

If you have the rights to edit a watermarked copy

The official download is always the best copy: full resolution, true color, no watermark. Use it whenever you can. Sometimes, though, the only copy left is a watermarked one, like an old preview from a studio that has since closed. If you own the photo or have the photographer's permission to edit it, our PhotoDay watermark remover can clean up that copy. It also works for school photos and sports photos from other companies.

FAQ

Do PhotoDay download links expire?

PhotoDay's help center doesn't state an expiration period for download links. Don't count on the link working forever, though. Download your photos as soon as you get the text or email, and if a link stops working later, contact PhotoDay to resend your receipt.

Can I print a Social Sharing download?

You can, but it won't look good beyond a small size. Social Sharing downloads are resized to 900 pixels wide, which PhotoDay says isn't high enough resolution for printing, and they don't include a print release. For prints, buy the High-Resolution download.

Can I download PhotoDay photos on my iPhone or Android?

Yes. Tap the link in your text or receipt email, then tap the green Download button on each photo. Phones download photos one at a time; Download All works on a computer.

Should I contact PhotoDay or my photographer?

Contact PhotoDay for a missing receipt, a lost download link, or a file that won't open. Contact the studio, whose details are in your gallery, about the photos themselves: retakes, wrong names, missing photos, or upgrading what you bought.
