Your Pixieset download PIN is a 4-digit code your photographer can see in the gallery's settings. Look for it in your gallery invite email first. If it isn't there, ask your photographer, because Pixieset's own instructions for finding it are inside their account. Here's the short version:
- Check your invite email. Photographers can include the PIN when they send a gallery.
- Make sure it's the right code. A gallery password and a download PIN are different things.
- Read the message you're getting. An "expired" PIN, an email error, and a missing download button each have a different cause.
Below: how to tell the codes apart, a table for each PIN problem, and a message you can send your photographer.
Which code is Pixieset asking for?
A Pixieset gallery can use up to three different codes. Mixing them up is an easy mistake, so check which one you're being asked for and when.
| Code | When you're asked for it | What it does | Who can share it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Download PIN | When you start a download | Lets you download photos and videos | Your photographer |
| Collection password | When you open the gallery, or when you enter as a guest | Lets you view the gallery | Your photographer |
| Client Exclusive Access password | When you enter as a client | Lets you view every set in the gallery, including client-only sets | Your photographer |
Pixieset sets a 4-digit download PIN for each gallery by default. If the code you were given is a word or a longer string, it may be a password instead. If you can't get into the gallery at all, you need our guide to opening a Pixieset gallery, not a PIN.
Where to look for your PIN
Try these in order:
- The gallery invite email. When photographers send a gallery by email, they have the option to include the PIN. Search your inbox and spam folder for your photographer's or studio's name.
- Any other message from your photographer. If they shared the gallery with a direct link in their own email or text, the PIN may be in that same message, or it may not have been sent at all.
- Your photographer. They can look it up under Settings > Download in that gallery. It usually takes them a moment, so asking is often the fastest route.
Each gallery has its own PIN, so a code from an older session may not work on a new one.
Bought digital files from the gallery's store? Check your email for the download link. Pixieset's steps for store orders send you a confirmation first, followed by a second email with the link, and they don't mention a PIN.
Why your PIN isn't working
| What you see | What it usually means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Notice that your PIN has expired | Your photographer limited how many times the PIN can start a gallery download, and the limit was reached | Ask for a new PIN or a higher limit |
| Error after entering your email and PIN | Downloads may be limited to specific email addresses | Try the address your invite went to, or ask to be added |
| PIN isn't accepted | It may be mistyped, may be an old code, or your photographer may have changed it | Retype it by hand, then ask your photographer to confirm the current PIN |
| Password works, but the download still asks for a code | The gallery password and the download PIN are separate | Ask for the download PIN |
| A count of remaining photos, and no full-gallery download | Your photographer set a download limit | Choose your favorites first, or ask whether the limit can change |
| Tooltip saying a photo can't be downloaded | That photo's set isn't available for download | Ask whether it can be added |
| No Download icon, so nothing asks for a PIN | Downloads may be off for this gallery | Ask your photographer what your package includes |
A few details can save you some back and forth:
- An expired PIN only affects gallery downloads. Pixieset says the PIN limit applies to gallery downloads. If your photographer has single-photo downloads on, those shouldn't be affected by that limit.
- You may not be asked twice. After a successful single-photo download, Pixieset doesn't ask for your email and PIN again during the same browser session.
- Some single photos may not need a PIN. Requiring a PIN for individual photos is a separate setting, so a gallery can behave differently for single photos and full downloads.
- Downloading as a guest gives you less. Guests only receive photos visible to them. If photos are missing from your download, you may need to enter the gallery as a client.
What your photographer can change
If you're asking for help, it's useful to know what they can actually do. In Pixieset, your photographer can:
- View, change, or turn off the PIN under Settings > Download
- Include the PIN in the gallery's email invite
- Change or remove a PIN usage limit under Settings > Download > Advanced Settings
- Add your email address if downloads are limited to specific contacts
- Change which photo sets are available to download
That makes a short, specific message more useful than "the download isn't working." Here's one you can copy:
Hi [photographer's name], I'm [your name] from the [session or event] gallery. I'm trying to download my photos, but [what you're seeing, such as "my PIN says it has expired" or "I don't have a PIN"]. Could you send me the current download PIN? If downloads are limited to certain email addresses, please add [your email]. You can find these under Settings > Download in the gallery. Thanks!
A PIN doesn't change the watermark
The PIN controls whether you can download, not whether the file has a watermark. According to Pixieset, high-resolution and original downloads never have one, while web-size downloads are clean by default unless your photographer kept the watermark on them.
So once your PIN works, pick the largest size offered. Our guide to downloading Pixieset photos without a watermark explains each size and how large you can print it.
If you already have the rights to a watermarked copy
There's no shortcut around a PIN, and you shouldn't need one. Your photographer is the right person to ask, and a clean file from them is always the best version.
Sometimes they can't help, though. Maybe the studio has closed, and all you have is a watermarked copy of a photo you own. If you own the photo or have your photographer's permission to edit it, our Pixieset watermark remover can clean it up, and our photo proof watermark remover works with other galleries too. Our tools don't connect to Pixieset and can't unlock a gallery or download.

FAQ
What is a Pixieset download PIN?
It's a 4-digit code Pixieset sets by default for each gallery. It applies to photo and video downloads, and your photographer can view, change, or turn it off in the gallery's settings.
Can Pixieset support give me my download PIN?
Pixieset's instructions for finding a PIN are written for photographers and are inside the gallery's settings. Your photographer manages the gallery, so they're the right person to ask first.
Why does Pixieset say my PIN has expired?
Your photographer limited how many times the PIN can be used for gallery downloads, and that limit has been reached. Ask them for a new PIN or a higher limit.
Do I need a PIN to download every Pixieset gallery?
No. The PIN is on by default, but your photographer can turn it off. Pixieset's steps say to enter one "if applicable," so whether you see the prompt depends on that gallery's settings.
Do I need a PIN for digital files I bought?
Pixieset's steps for store orders don't mention one. Your files are delivered through a link in your email. That link expires after 7 days, but your photographer can resend the files.
